Rusty Oddity: Nostrils, Lips, Front Teeth and the Blues

I ran across these today. I didn’t take them, but the nostrils and lips are mine. My pal Rocky and I were on photo safari at abandoned military base at Marin Headlands in northern California. We had big fun and lots of Rocky’s shots ended up in youtube video of my instrumental Go It Alone played by Mark Matejka of Lynyrd Skynyrd. If you’re in the mood for some killer blues guitar, video link at end.

Cows, We’re Remarkable Cows

If you don’t know the song Cows, it’s the opening track on the CD Philadelphia Chickens by childrens’ author Sandra Boynton. If you’re going on a road trip with the kids, I recommend it as one of the few CDs that parents can listen to as long as the kids can. Even if there are no kids in tow, it’s fun, quirky music perfect for the open road and blue highways amusement.

Cows is a theatrical, lyrically-compelling opener sung by The Seldom Herd. Kevin Bacon punches an incredible lead vocal onto the big band jazz arrangement of title track Philadelphia Chickens. Meryl Streep sings a beautifully-plaintive comedic lead vocal on Faraway Cookies. Endlessly entertaining. You won’t be disappointed.

Here are my cows. It was near dark and they were in a mellow, early-summer-night mood. Cows. Remarkable cows.

Finland Fireplaces: Blue & White Tile

Louhisaari Manor in Askainen, Finland. Since I found these fireplaces quite lovely and not like anything I’d seen, I took these photographs inside the manor, which is a rare example of palatial architecture in Finland. Construction began in the 15th century and the main building, which dates from 1655, opened to the public in 1967. Currently represented on different floors of the main building are 17th, 18th, and 19th century interior decorating styles, so I’m not sure about the time period of the fireplaces.
